The Skin cooker hood, designed by Fabrizio Crisà and Elica Design Center, has been indeed awarded the Red Dot award product design 2011, the coveted international prize that acknowledges the high quality of the project. Skin, that has resulted from the studies which are constantly carried out by Elica on functionality as well as on innovative shapes and materials, has been selected after an accurate test by a jury of international experts from various sectors due to its characteristics of functionality, ergonomics, attention towards the environment, durability and design.
Skin is actually a cooker hood that has been conceived to ensure the best suction and lighting performance thanks to state-of-the-art technologies. Its oblique shape, that has been developed according to the principles of ergonomics, doesn’t prevent the user from seeing the worktop and preparing food conveniently. The glass or steel front panel with rounded angles presents in the middle a wide, high-performance filtering surface in micro-perforated steel, that can be removed and washed for an easy maintenance.
The control interface, that looks like the radio sets of the 70s, is made up of 2 round elements, suction intensity and lighting dimmer, placed on the side of the front panel, which rotate with a tuning effect and are represented by some intuitive icons, thus denoting a concrete approach in terms of usability. The pivoting chromium finish LED spot, which is placed in the middle above the filter, allows to orient the light in any direction: on the cooker, on the sides of the kitchen worktop or towards the room ceiling, thus making Skin a multipurpose object.
It is thanks to these characteristics that Skin has stood out in the Red Dot Award, one of the most important international design competitions, which was launched in 1955 with the aim of acknowledging the outstanding qualities of designers and manufacturers. Skin, together with the other products that have been awarded this coveted prize, will be presented in July on the occasion of an official ceremony at the Red Dot museum in Zollverein, Essen, in Germany.
In Skin, like in all its ventilation hoods, Elica declines the main values characterizing the Italian know-how – creativity, attention to details, quality and style. These elements connote Elica on the market and have allowed the company to revolutionize the traditional image of cooker hoods, thus transforming this exclusively functional accessory into a unique piece of furniture that can improve comfort in the kitchen.
