The powerful Baratza Vario W coffee grinder offers almost too much. Starting with long lasting, Swiss made 54mm ceramic flat burrs, the ones found in professional Mahlkonig espresso grinders, some 230 grind settings and built-in electronic scale that lets you set desired ground coffee weight within 0.2 grams and then stops grinding once it reaches the weight, the Baratza Vario W is simply mean, robust and incredibly functional coffee grinder.
For comparison, the excellent Baratza Virtuoso comes with “only” 40mm conical burrs. Designed initially for use in a manual brew bar in a cafe, the Vario W fits in your kitchen or office and features 3 programmable buttons for repeatable, one-touch grinding. And the grinding is very accurate and fast, averaging 1.6 grams per second for espresso and 2.2 grams per second for Press.
The Baratza Vario W offers easy and straight forward macro and micro adjustments. The right-hand macro adjust moves from fine to coarse grinding in 10 distinct and repeatable settings. A secondary left-hand micro adjust arm further divides each of the 10 macro steps into 20 distinct settings. These steps enable you to dial in the exact grind for the perfect shot. In addition, the digital LCD window shows the weight value that is being ground, so you won’t need to worry about pre-weighing your beans.
The Vario W has a tinted 8 oz. whole bean hopper with lid and an anti-static food-grade ABS plastic ground coffee container with a nice 5 oz. capacity. Seen in stores for $550. Baratza.
